My Experience in a Remote Job
During my internship at Songfluencer of Genni Agency, my role as a remote outreach intern was very educational and exciting. I took on multiple responsibilities and tasks at Songfluencer that helped me gain more knowledge in public relations and the entertainment industry. My experience has helped me build some more insight in my future career.
A large part of my time at my internship had me doing different creator outreaches for certain song or brand campaigns. The agency works with either brands or music artists looking to promote their brand or song, but they are looking to reach out to their specific audiences. My main role in the internship is looking for different creators that fit into specific niches for those campaigns, such as alternative, rap, baddie, athletic, etc. I compile creators I’ve found onto a spreadsheet and include their names, emails, tags, and rate assessment. Then I reached out to those creators via email, where I learned how to make effective communication and negotiation skills. I had to find balance in ensuring a good compensation for creators but still adhere to the company’s fair rate assessments. I utilized rate assessments to calculate estimated rates for each creator based on their engagement on their social posts. I’ve learned so much on how to build creator relations and what goes behind the marketing for songs. I found out that even subtle songs in creators’ social posts are planted or paid without knowing, which branches out to create trends towards smaller creators.
After outreaching creators, I would onboard them to the company portal so my campaign directors can send them campaign offers. Onboarding them includes creating profiles into the company portal. I would have to compile their information, such as email, payment email, name, relevant tags, into their profile. It was very interesting to see how much of a process goes into for a creator to participate in a campaign.
Understanding and utilizing multiple social media platforms, such as TikTok, Instagram, and Youtube Shorts, was a significant skill used consistently throughout my internship. I was actually offered this internship through my previous experience and knowledge with social media and I was able to utilize such in my responsibilities. Besides finding creators, I was able to create content to promote Songfluencer music artist clients that required a strong understanding of the target audiences. I created posts for TikTok, Instagram, and Youtube Shorts and worked with songs in different genres. This was the most enjoyable part of my internship and helped me understand how a digital presence in social media boosts artists’ careers and engagement.
Every week, I’ve attended team meetings with other interns and audited projects. In my weekly intern meetings, our directors checked in with us on our outreaches and weekly tasks and the interns had to summarize what we’ve worked on for the week. But these meetings allowed us to have open discussions with directors and other interns, which added to the creative and welcoming environment. I took notes during these meetings to help me take insight in projects we were working on and know what questions to ask when I needed to.
In my internship, I created two weekly reports. One report was describing the weekly sound trends of the week in every relevant platform and how creators were interacting with it. I used my knowledge in social media and trends to look through every platform and find what fit the best for the week. The other report I had to write was for the outreached interns for every outreach I had to work on. This report would describe every creator I onboarded that worked best with each campaign and the rate we agreed on with them. I had to submit both of these reports to my director at the end of every week.
Another one of my responsibilities in my internship is to assist marketing directors and campaign directors in their tasks. They would have me edit creator profiles or link certain profiles towards managers or message specific creators for campaigns. It gave me more on hand experience in what they had to work with and projects for clients. It has shaped what I had wanted to do in my future career.
My remote outreach internship at Songfluencer has been an amazing and valuable experience. Although I personally wasn’t looking to work in the entertainment industry, I did want to work in this internship for some insight in public relations. I was able to hone, utilize, and obtain skills from this internship and contributed to the agency’s work.
